Who’s an insignificant speck of dust?

A rabbi, feeling spiritually moved, dropped to his knees in his study to begin praying: “Exalted God, Thou who art everything, I am but an insignificant speck of dust in your cosmos….Thy will be done, not mine….” and so forth and so on.

Just then the cantor happened to come by, and, also spiritually moved, dropped down to his knees to pray: “Exalted God, Thou who art everything, I am but an insignificant speck of dust in your cosmos,…” and so forth and so on.

By chance, the building’s janitor happened to overhear the two men praying. He too was spiritually moved, and dropped down to his knees – “Exalted God, Thou who art everything, I am but an insignificant speck of dust in your cosmos…”

At which point the cantor nudged the rabbi to whisper, “Hmpf! Now look who thinks he’s an insignificant speck of dust….”
