One of the focal points of my practice is the importance of moving well — connecting to and improving the way we sit, stand, walk, breathe, and move. It’s one of the cornerstones of life. One of my patients was kind enough to write down some of her thoughts on this topic and allow me to share them with you…
For many years I felt I was in conflict with my own body about how to move. Although I have always loved movement, I argued and fought with myself about starting and continuing a program. Whether it was karate or dance, or simply running in the park, I felt that I had failed when I stopped. But, as I aged, one thing became clear- wherever I was going, I was going to need this body to get there, so I decided to help myself by moving the right way. Whether it is sitting down or getting up from a chair, or simply walking up and down subway steps, I take every step as an opportunity for moving well.
A commitment to “moving well” does far more than improve your biomechanics and prevent injury. It has an effect on your mood, cognition, emotion, and creativity.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
