It’s Official – You’re Working Too Hard

Overwork is a serious health issue.

The German Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health has conducted a number of health studies and concluded that long work hours are directly correlated with sleep disturbances, back pain, and heart problems.  Health effects of overworking can also include headaches, extreme fatigue, depression, continuous irritability, and even panic attacks.

Working too many hours is a double whammy – not only is it making you sicker, it’s also cutting into your social life, which is an important contributor to good health.

At the same time, overworked employees are more likely to make mistakes, and can feel angry at their employer, their boss, or at co-workers who seem less busy than they are.

Sadly, overworking is becoming the norm.  In recent surveys, a third to a half of all employed people reported that they were dealing with issues of overworking, and those numbers have probably gotten worse since the surveys were conducted.
